Driving Biochar in India

Stubble Burning

Stubble burning, a prevalent agricultural practice in India, contributes significantly to air pollution and climate change, releasing harmful pollutants and greenhouse gases.

23Mtonnes

of paddy stubble burned annually in Northern India alone

696Mtonnes/yr

gross crop residue potential in India

250km+

smoke travel distance, adding to toxic air in cities like New Delhi

100s of millions

of people affected by the resulting public health crisis

Our Solution

PyroCCS addresses these issues through biochar projects that convert agricultural residue into biochar while mitigating environmental impact.

Not only do our projects contribute to solving the pressing stubble burning crisis, they also provide extra income from carbon credit sales to farmer livelihoods, and the produced biochar improves depleted and degraded soils locally.

PyroCCS has four projects across India, working with various crop residues and invasive plant species as biomass sources, with a potential of over 1 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent removed per year.
