Pyroccs

PyroNam

The biochar strategy for Namibia, implemented by PyroCCS’ subsidiary PyroNam

I – WHY NAMIBIA?

Massive biomass potential

 ~450 Mt

New growth:

~15 Mt p.a.

Despite high biomass potential and growth of invasive plants:

II – ABOUT PYRONAM

Biochar solution for Namibia

PyroNam obtains biomass from local farmers, turns it into biochar, using low-tech pyrolysis machines. In doing so, PyroNam is creating income opportunities for farmers, improving fertility of soils and biodiversity in the savanna.

1.
Conversion of bush biomass to biochar
2.
Biochar as a soil amendment and carbon removal agent
3.
Financed through carbon credits

III – PROBLEMS TO ADDRESS

PyroNam sequesters CO2 from waste biomass and stores it in biochar

IV - GOALS

1,000 plants projected in 12 year span

1,000,000 t of biochar produced per year

> 2,500,000 t CO2 net removed per year

> 16,000 jobs at the plants and farm harvesters

~ 100,000 ha of degraded soils made fertile

V – METHODOLOGY

Scaling the pyrolysis technology

Over 2500 tons of CO2/per year are removed by every plant
